KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - An execution date has been set for a Tennessee death row inmate who was convicted of murdering two people over three decades ago.

According to court records, Gary Wayne Sutton’s execution date has been set for Dec. 3, 2026.

Sutton has been on death row since 1996. He was given the death penalty after he was convicted by two separate juries for the murders of Connie Branam and her brother, Tommy Griffin, in 1992. Records show Branam’s body was discovered in her burned vehicle and Griffin was shot to death.

Sutton’s attorney, Randy Spivey, released a statement Wednesday afternoon in response to the execution date.
