DENVER (KDVR) — The city of Aurora is hosting a special recycling event for residents wanting to get rid of old or unwanted electronics.

The city said the event is to help residents recycle their electronics responsibly since disposing of electronics in solid waste landfills is illegal in Colorado.

The event is for residents only and will accept most electronic items with a cord or a battery, including desktops, laptops, cell phones, tablets and gaming equipment. All data on the electronics is wiped and "physically destroyed" to protect a person's identity, according to the city of Aurora.

Electronics will be collected and recycled by Pedal Point LifeCycle Solutions along with special event pricings for the October dates. The city said each carload will be $5; however, some electronics
