TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - With the government shutdown now underway, some travelers at Tucson International Airport are expressing concern about how it could soon affect air travel.
Things are continuing to move as normal at the airport on day one of the shutdown, but federal government shutdowns have historically caused longer security lines, flight delays, and even cancellations.
That’s because TSA workers and air traffic controllers are required to work without pay, which can lead to staffing shortages.
During the last government shutdown in 2018, TSA workers called out of work at increased rates nationwide as federal employees went unpaid for weeks.
