RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The Richland County Coroner says an 11-year-old child is dead after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

Coroner Naida Rutherford said the child as Travis Kelley of Gadsden.

“The death of a child is not just a family’s tragedy-it is a heartbreak that ripples through our entire community," Rutherford said. "To know that a child left home and will not be returning leaves a pain that words cannot fully express. Our office will work closely with the South Carolina Highway Patrol to fully investigate this fatal hit and run.

Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the collision happened around 6:30 a.m. on Bluff Road near the intersection of BlackBerry Road.
