(KRON) -- A man who allegedly attempted to bring drugs into a San Mateo County jail while visiting an inmate on Tuesday was arrested on site, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, identified as Brian E. Siordia, 27, of San Jose, had previously been incarcerated in San Mateo County. Siordia entered the Maple Street Correctional Center in Redwood City at around 8 p.m. looking to visit an inmate, authorities said.

“Former incarcerated persons are required by law to receive approval to return to the facility,” the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said. “Siordia failed to obtain the required approval and was not legally permitted to be at the facility.”

Deputies arrested Siordia in the lobby for being at the facility unpermitted.
