BROOKHAVEN – A Lee County jury on Wednesday convicted Justin Devon Anderson of capital murder in connection with the 2019 shooting death of Zaria Newton, in a case heard in the Lincoln County Circuit Court following a change of venue.

The case stemmed from a July 20, 2019, incident in which officers with the Brookhaven Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a residence at 202 Mason Road. Investigators determined that Newton was fatally shot during a burglary of her home.

Circuit Judge Michael Taylor sentenced Anderson to life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole.
