MOTT HAVEN, the Bronx (PIX11) --- About 100 families were displaced after an explosion rocked a NYCHA complex in the Bronx Wednesday morning, officials said.

The incident happened in one of the buildings at the Mitchel Houses on Alexander Avenue in Mott Haven just after 8 a.m. The explosion came from the chimney connected to the boiler room, causing part of the building to collapse, according to officials.

"I heard a big bang, so I'm like, what's going and I heard floor, --grab my son and leave, and ran down 11 flights of steps," said resident Serenity Gonzalez.
