MECOSTA TOWNSHIP — A driver died Wednesday after a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire on Northland Drive in Mecosta Township, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.
Per an Oct. 1 news release, deputies were dispatched around 11:11 a.m. Oct. 1 to the crash, which happened south of 12 Mile Road.
The vehicle was traveling north on Northland Drive when it crossed the centerline, went through the southbound lane and off the west shoulder before colliding with a tree.
The impact caused the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, to immediately catch fire. The driver was unable to exit the car and sustained fatal injuries. Authorities said the driver is believed to be known, but identification will not be confirmed until an autopsy is complete.
Multiple calls reported the crash and
