PROVIDENCE − Superior Court Judge Richard Licht and his wife have won $1,225,000 in settlement payments from Rhode Island College − and its insurer − over the serious injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car allegedly driven by a RIC employee outside the State House in February 2023.

Under the terms of the mediated settlement, the state agreed to pay Licht and his wife, retired Massachusetts Judge Roanne Sragow Licht, $466,100 on behalf of Rhode Island College; Genesis Insurance Company agreed to pay another $500,000 and United Educators, $258,900 "to effectuate the compromise of a disputed claim."

The year-old settlement, first reported by GoLocalProv.com, surfaced at a time when the courts are abuzz with speculation about which of the court's seasoned judges are likely to succeed
