CENTRAL, Washington County — A house in Washington County is considered a total loss following a fire on Wednesday.

Central Fire Chief Ralph Flores said his department received multiple calls of a fire at 207 E. Sumac Drive about 11 a.m.

The backside of the house was ablaze when fire crews arrived, but they were able to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring homes. Flores said the fire started in the kitchen and dining room before spreading to the living room, bedroom and back porch.

Although there were no occupants home at the time, two dogs and three cats died in the fire, Flores said. The homeowners were notified of the fire and have since returned home, he added.
