A new social group, SY Backgammon, is bringing the classic board game back to the Santa Ynez Valley.

The club will hold its inagural meeting at Petros Winery & Restaurant, 3360 Foxen Canyon Rd. in Los Olivos, on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4:30 p.m. Organizers suggest arriving hungry.

Regular gatherings will follow on the first and third Sundays of each month. Dates currently set aside are Oct. 19, Nov. 2 and 16 and Dec. 14.

Founded by local player Teri Harmon, the club invites both seasoned competitors and newcomers to join. Members can play socially, enjoy Petros food and wine, and take part in friendly contests with prizes. Instruction will also be available for beginners.
