Prosecutors want a 19-year-old who admitted to killing his sister-in-law and two young nephews inside their Northfield home in 2022 to be sentenced to 115 years.

Eric Sweeney pleaded guilty to killing Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her children, Benjamin, 4, and Mason, 1, in August. He was 16 at the time of the murders.

The Attorney General’s Office is prepared for “potential constitutional challenges that may be raised by the defense” when it comes to the de facto life sentence during a sentencing hearing scheduled for Friday. The life expectancy for a non-Hispanic, white male is 76 years, according to court documents.
