UP: IIT-K student found dead in hostel; absence noticed after foul smell

KANPUR: A 22-year-old final-year electrical engineering student at IIT-Kanpur, Dheeraj Saini, was found dead in his hostel room on Wednesday morning. He had not been seen since Sunday night. Police broke down the door of his room after students from an adjacent room reported a foul smell. No suicide note was found in Dheeraj's room, but a preliminary investigation suggested depression might have pushed him to take his life, police said. The deceased was from Mahendragarh district in Haryana. Dheeraj's absence was first noted when students in the adjoining room, troubled by the odour, attempted to contact him without success.
