Pa. (WETM) – Instead of raking all the leaves out of your yard this fall season, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is asking you to consider an alternative.

Around this time of year, most homeowners will begin preparing to rake up the leaves in their yards to set aside for their neighborhood leaf collection. While this may seem like the best way to handle the fall debris, the DCNR says that the leaves are actually best left in your yard.

According to the DCNR, leaving leaves in your yard provides support for local wildlife and helps with yard and garden life.
