RENFREW – A serious crash on Highway 17 in Renfrew on Tuesday claimed the lives of two women from Quebec, authorities confirmed.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the collision occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 30, involving a car and a pickup truck. The highway was temporarily closed in both directions between Chenaux Road and Bruce Street but has since reopened.

The driver and passenger of the car, a 54-year-old and a 78-year-old, both from Vals-Des-Monts, Quebec, were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. The pickup truck’s driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was not injured.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a reconstruction team attended the scene, along with emergency responders. The investigation is ongoing.
