Grundy County school leaders are concerned about the growing presence of THC gummies within the school system.

At a school board meeting on Tuesday night, school board members discussed their apprehension about the issue.

Director of Schools Dr. Clint Durley says there have been at least four reported cases involving the cannabis-based edibles since the start of the school year. The incidents have occurred at North Elementary School and Grundy County High School.

“It’s easy to disguise what those items look like,” Durley said. “You could hide them potentially in a bag of candy.”

Durley, who began his role in 2021, noted that vaping was once the primary concern among students, but there has been a noticeable rise in THC gummy use over the past few years.
