A Grand River Transit bus driver who pleaded guilty to driving his car dangerously avoided a full licence suspension in Kitchener court.

A judge banned him from driving for one year except while travelling to, from and during work.

Around 11 p.m. in July 2024, the Kitchener man was speeding his 2016 Honda Accord down Kossuth Road in Woolwich Township, court was told.

On a bend in the road, he lost control. The car entered a ditch and went airborne.

A witness described it as “cartwheeling or rolling through the air” before landing in a sod farm, court was told.

Thirty seconds before the crash, the car hit 170 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone.

The man, 41, had only minor injuries. His car was demolished.

He gave police a breath sample, which registered zero alcohol.
