OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — The Old Saybrook Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony Wednesday for its new chief.
Chief William Onofrio is now in charge of the department. He previously served as deputy chief of the Hamden police force.
At his swearing-in, Onofrio laid out his ideas for what policing will look like in the shoreline community moving forward.
"My vision is focused on strengthening public safety while deepening the connection between our officers and the community that we serve," Onofrio said. "I believe their wellness, their professional growth, and their sense of purpose must always come first."
The chief's appointment comes months after the town's former chief retired amid an investigation into the department.
