ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The Chemung County Sheriff's office welcomed community members to an afternoon of conversation and coffee, with their "Coffee with a Cop" event.
Every year on Oct. 1st, police stations nationwide celebrate National Coffee with a Cop day. It's a program designed to bring communities and law enforcement together in a casual setting.
The Chemung County Sheriff's office joined department across the country, giving residents the chance to meet Sheriff William A. Schrom and his deputies at the Holy Grounds Coffee Shop, located in Elmira.
The event took place from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M. Throughout the day, several officers stayed at the shop to greet and engage curious customers. A few officers took the initiative to step behind the counter and serve the customers themselves.
