CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Chesapeake man has been convicted of felony assault and battery and a misdemeanor charge following a jury trial last week.

Barry Chandler, 63, was found guilty on September 24 of assault and battery of a family member, 3rd or subsequent offense, and an additional misdemeanor assault and battery charge. The jury recommended the maximum sentences for both crimes: five years in prison for the felony and 1 year in jail for the misdemeanor.

Authorities said the charges stem from an incident on December 3, 2024, when police responded to a complaint at Chandler’s home. Officers found Chandler and his daughter, who was a minor at the time, who alleged that he had beaten and choked her outside their home two days earlier.
