U.S. President Donald Trump has once again raised the spectre of annexing Canada. In his rambling speech Tuesday to U.S. military leaders, he said Canada wants in on the so-called “Golden Dome” missile defence system.
“Canada called me a couple of weeks ago, they want to be part of it, to which I said, ‘Well, why don’t you just join our country. You become 51 — become the 51st state — and you get it for free,’” he told the assembly.
It’s easy to dismiss his words as trolling to distract from domestic problems, such as the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein files and the U.S. government shutdown.
A more menacing statement was made by close Trump associate Roger Stone, who posted recently on social media a statement suggesting Saskatchewan is ripe to join the U.S.
