Chronic disease remains one of the biggest health challenges in the U.S., with an estimated 129 million Americans living with at least one major condition. As healthcare costs climb and access to wellness resources continues to vary by region, a new report from the nonprofit SmileHub takes a closer look at how each state is faring.

How the Rankings Were Determined

To spotlight which states are doing the most, and the least, to support residents in improving their health and wellness, SmileHub compared all 50 states across 23 key metrics. The analysis considered a wide range of factors, including the number of health and wellness charities per capita, the average cost of a medical visit, and the level of public health funding.
