SYLVANIA Ga. (WTOCS) - A woman diagnosed with cancer is both fighting for her life and fighting her insurance company.

She recently found out she’s on the hook for almost half a million dollars.

Rachel Williams is a mom of three and a former teacher who is a Sylvania native.

On December 13th 2021, she received a call that would change everything.

“I got the call that it was in fact cancer and tests would later show that it had spread to my liver and my bones,” said Williams.

Williams was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer.

She had to leave her teaching job to focus on her health and on the extensive treatments that would follow.

In 2025, she joined her husband’s insurance plan with Anthem.
