A 14-year-old boy named Jasper is being hailed as a hero for leading his family to safety on Sept. 28, after a man rammed a pickup truck into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, opened fire and, officials believe, set the church ablaze in what marks the 13th mass shooting in Michigan this year.

Four people were killed, eight more were injured and the shooter was shot dead by police. Victims range in age from 6 to 78.

For reasons of privacy, Jasper's family has asked that their last name not be used.

"Jasper just really took charge ... as a 14-year-old boy, he was able to keep his wits about him, we don't know how, but he stayed calm and probably saved his brothers and his mom," said his aunt, Amber Rosen.
