City Councilmember Maritza Rivera (District 4) today released this statement after the Trump administration and federal lawmakers failed to reach a budget deal, leading to a government shutdown.

“I want to address the harmful shutdown of the Federal Government. In the Seattle Metropolitan area, which includes Tacoma and Bellevue, there are over 30,000 federal employees who will be adversely affected by President Trump’s brinksmanship.

“President Trump is holding our taxpayer dollars hostage and denying needed healthcare and other essential services to our residents all for his own political gain.

“I stand with our Congressional delegation working to ensure that critical services are protected for our residents.”
