PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Two hundred service members with the Oregon National Guard are preparing for their assignment in Portland this week following orders from President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, Trump invoked Title 10 to federalize the state’s military and send them to Portland, where the president says “Antifa and the radical left anarchists” have been attacking federal officers outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.
Details about the troops’ role once they get to Portland remain unclear. The Oregon Military Department told KOIN 6 News that boots could be on the ground as early as Thursday — though military officials are now saying that timeline may be delayed.
