EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — The town of East Hartford recently adopted a new Police Technology and Public Safety ordinance.
It went into effect on Sept. 24 and gives the town the green light to install license plate readers, traffic cameras, noise detection machines, more security cameras and even use drones for crime prevention and safety planning.
Mayor Connor Martin said it's all about making the town safer at the end of the day.
"Those quality of life issues which become our number one calls both to our office and to the police department are around bad driving behavior," Martin said.
On average, East Hartford police officers make more than 7,500 vehicle stops a year, but they can't stop every reckless driver, which is where the department and town officials are hoping the technology
