Trout Lake man identified as pilot killed in Battle Ground area plane crash

Officials identified Kenneth Shaffer, 76, of Trout Lake, as the person killed in a plane crash Sept. 26 at Goheen Field north of Battle Ground.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined his cause and manner of death.

The crash is still being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board. The single-engine plane, a Cessna Skyhawk, was registered to Shaffer, according to FlightAware , a website that tracks aircraft and flight data.

A preliminary incident report by the Federal Aviation Administration said Shaffer’s plane lost control under unknown circumstances before flying into trees west of the runway .
