AUSTIN, Texas — A man who stabbed a University of Texas at Austin student to death in 2017 will be released from a mental health hospital.
On Wednesday, Travis County Judge Tamara Needles ruled that 29-year-old Kendrex White can be released.
In his 2018 trial, White was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the deadly stabbing of 19-year-old Harrison Brown on the UT campus. Three others were injured in that attack.
After telling police he had no recollection of attacking anyone, White has been in the Kerrville State Hospital, receiving mental health treatment for the last eight years.
Harrison Brown’s mother, Lori Brown, told KVUE earlier this year she was opposed to White’s release.
