LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A new citywide movement in Louisville looks to help the community find peaceful ways to deal with conflict.

It's called Nonviolent Louisville, and organizers hosted an event Wednesday morning at the Muhammad Ali Center.

The group hopes people will learn skills that can help curb violence.

"It's easy to give up when you see violence. It's easy to think we can't do anything," said organizer Anne Walter. "But the thing is every single one of us makes a difference. So any one of us who is working on the practice of non-harm, not hurting others mindfully, you know, intentionally is working on building a society where there is less violence."

Thursday is International Day of Nonviolence. It has been observed on Oct. 2 since 2007 in honor of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday.
