Recently, The St. Louis American Contributing Editor Fred Sweets embarked on one of his signature cross-country treks.
Joined by longtime friend Michael Dutton, the journey began in Tiburon, California, with stops in San Francisco, Sacramento, Reno, the Rockies, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, and finally Washington, DC.
Along the way, they shared meals with friends, visited historic sites, and reflected on both personal and community landmarks—from the legacy of the Sweets Bar-Cafe in Wyoming to the soulful storytelling of Bob Kendrick at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This gallery captures just a few moments and places from their seven-day drive across America.
