CALGARY — Brad Gushue and Matt Dunstone opened curling’s PointsBet Invitational with wins.
Gushue defeated Canadian men’s junior champion Calan MacIsaac 8-6 and Dunstone downed Ryan Kleiter 5-3 in the first draw of the 20-team bonspiel in Calgary.
On the women’s side, Kate Cameron beat Kayla Skrlik 11-9, Corryn Brown was a 9-4 winner over Selena Sturmay and Beth Peterson edged Myla Plett 8-7.
The PointsBet Invitational offers $300,000 in prize money and features teams that will compete in the Olympic trials in Halifax next month.
Each team plays four round-robin games.
The finals are Sunday.
