CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- A pedestrian viaduct in Downtown Champaign will be closed for the next few months to accommodate construction work, the City of Champaign said.

The Main Street viaduct was already fenced off earlier this month to curb vagrancy and drug use, but construction work will keep it closed for the rest of the year.

People needing to get from one side of the train tracks to the other should use the sidewalk along University Avenue, staff from the City of Champaign said.

Construction on the viaduct is expected to be completed in January.
