The Bruins have placed their first player on waivers since training camp began.

Billy Sweezey was among the several NHL players teams put on waivers on Wednesday. The Hanson native spent the 2024-25 season in Providence.

In 64 games, Sweezey tallied one goal, nine assists, 67 penalty minutes, and a plus-7 rating.

The defenseman’s chances of making the Bruins’ roster were against him given the depth of blue liners Boston has.

During a preseason game last year, Sweezey showed his willingness to drop the gloves if needed when he fought Philadelphia Flyers veteran Sean Couturier.

“Couturier came over and I wanted to show I wasn’t afraid to answer the bell,” Sweezey said.
