BOISE, Idaho — The federal government shut down at midnight Wednesday after the Senate failed to agree on a budget, affecting government operations nationwide, including in Idaho.

The Idaho National Guard said essential operations will continue during the shutdown, but non-essential functions have been suspended.
"Some of the non-mission essential functions like community relations, you know, going out and conducting public speaking engagements or putting static displays up at local schools, providing flyovers at sporting events, those types of things will pause," said Chris Borders, Public Affairs Officer for the Idaho National Guard.
Critical services will remain operational, including emergency response c
