The country on Thursday celebrates the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, who was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat.
On the same day, India also marks the 121st birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the nation’s second Prime Minister, born on October 2, 1904, in Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar (then Mughalsarai), Uttar Pradesh.
Mahatma Gandhi is revered worldwide for his principles of truth and non-violence. The United Nations recognises his birth anniversary as the International Day of Non-Violence. Lal Bahadur Shastri is remembered for his iconic slogan, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,' which highlighted the importance of soldiers and farmers in nation-building. .
