SUMTER, S.C. — A domestic disturbance escalated into a violent confrontation and multi-county high-speed chase Wednesday evening, leaving one suspect dead and a deputy injured, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began around 6:13 p.m. when deputies responded to a 911 call on Windemere Drive, where they found a victim suffering from severe stab wounds.
The victim was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey for treatment. Their condition has not yet been released.
According to authorities, the suspect fled the scene in a white Hyundai, reportedly heading toward Charleston.
Deputies soon located the vehicle near Queen’s Chapel and Old Camden Highway and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to comply and initiated a high-speed pursuit.
