SPENCER — Checking in at 5-foot-9, 315 pounds, Kaleb McCubbin looks like he was born to be an offensive lineman, but North Rowan’s burly right tackle actually got a late start in football.
“I grew up wanting to play football and I thought a lot about playing when I was in middle school, but I still didn’t go out,” McCubbin said. “Finally, before my freshman year of high school, I decided I was going to do it. I started going to the summer workouts.”
McCubbin spent some years catching up with North athletes who had started playing football as soon as they could tie their cleats.
But size is a great equalizer and determination and savvy definitely help. McCubbin possesses all of those
