Peruvian police announced Wednesday they will expel Matías Ozorio, a 28-year-old Argentine captured in Lima and wanted for the brutal murder of three young women in Buenos Aires.
Police Chief Óscar Arriola confirmed that Ozorio's expulsion process was fast-tracked because he entered Peru illegally. The triple homicide is suspected to be a drug-related score-settling, with Ozorio believed to be a lieutenant in a narcotics gang.
Ozorio's alleged boss, Peruvian Tony Janzen Valverde Victoriano, 20, was also arrested in Lima. Nicknamed "Pequeño J" or "Little J" and thought to lead the drug ring, Valverde was caught disguised in a fish transport truck.
Unlike Ozorio, Valverde will face a longer extradition process. Authorities believe Valverde ordered the execution of Morena Verdi and Brenda Del Castillo, both 20, and Lara Gutiérrez, 15, on September 20. The victims were found tortured and buried in a house garden outside Buenos Aires.
The killings were reportedly vengeance over the alleged theft of cocaine. Argentine security minister Javier Alonso stated the murders were meant to send a message to rivals and subordinates.
Some detainees told police that the torture and execution were live-streamed to other gang members. Authorities are searching seized phones for the alleged footage. In total, nine people have been detained in connection with the case.
