CINCINNATI, Ohio — Bengals quarterback Jake Browning has not been able to replicate his 2023 level of play thus far in 2025.

Browning and the Bengals have scored a combined 13 points in his two starts filling in for the injured Joe Burrow. That’s led to questions about what the Bengals are doing differently now compared to 2023, when Browning had an extended starting run for an injured Burrow.

Browning kept the answer pretty simple during his Wednesday press conference.

“I just felt like we did a better job when I was in ’23 and we need to improve in this year is just staying ahead of the sticks,” Browning explained to reporters, cutting through the complexity to highlight what might be the most important offensive metric that rarely makes the stat sheet.
