The Albanese government is close to securing a critical minerals tariff exemption from Donald Trump as the US looks to reduce its reliance on China.

In April, Trump signed an executive order to investigate national security risks posed by America’s reliance on imported processed critical minerals and is expected to impose tariffs.

It remains unclear how steep the US President’s potential tariffs could be.

In response to the looming duties, a delegation of 15 representatives went on a critical minerals contingent to the US with Ambassador Kevin Rudd and many were hopeful that Australia could receive an exemption from the possible levies, according to The Australian.
