The number of large companies in Australia that don't pay any tax has fallen to a record low but some industry heavyweights still avoid paying any dues.
The Australian Taxation Office published its tax transparency report on Thursday, finding big businesses collectively payed more than $100 billion in tax in the 2023/24 financial year.
However, despite raking in $8.2 billion, Singtel, the parent company of Optus, paid zero corporate tax in Australia.
Optus recently came under fire for its role in the triple-zero outage on September 18, which has been linked to three deaths.
Virgin Australia and CSL also paid zero company tax in 2023/24, the report shows.
