The late iNkosi Kwataine V was laid to rest yesterday at the royal graveyard in Kalimwayi Village, under Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu District, in a solemn ceremony attended by local leaders, family members, and community representatives.
The burial followed traditional Ngoni rites, marking the end of an era for the chieftaincy, which he led for many years with dedication and authority.
In line with custom, the late chief’s firstborn son, Honest Kwataine, stood on his father’s grave immediately after the burial, a symbolic act signifying his ascension to the throne as the new iNkosi Kwataine.
Honest becomes the sixth in the Kwataine chieftaincy line, succeeding his father as the traditional leader overseeing approximately 279 villages under his jurisdiction.
