A new report has revealed that record numbers of Scottish businesses are reporting turnover above £300m.
Scotland's top 100 privately-owned companies generated a combined turnover of £40bn, employing 146,000 people across the country, according to research from Grant Thornton.
During 2025 so far, 29 Scottish-based companies reported turnover above £300m - the highest since the report’s inception in 2014. Only 21 companies reported earnings before tax below £10m.
This year also saw a record 41 acquisitions by companies in the top 100 - again, the highest since the report began - with the manufacturing and engineering sector leading the way, with 20 deals from just nine companies. Centurion Group topped the list with five acquisitions, followed by Aggreko with four.
