A Starbucks in the Alexander County community of Bethlehem is a casualty of the company’s plan to close more than 400 stores in North America .

The Bethlehem location opened around May 2024. It is closed as of Wednesday, and no longer appears on the company website.

In a letter about the company’s future, Starbucks Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol said the company was evaluating stores.

“During the review, we identified coffeehouses where we’re unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don’t see a path to financial performance, and these locations will be closed,” the letter said.

In the letter, Niccol said the company plans to upfit more than 1,000 stores.

Starbucks has seven locations in Catawba County and more than 18,000 worldwide.
