BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Bristol Tennessee City Council on Tuesday selected Matthew Slagle to fill the East District council seat vacated last month by former Mayor Mark Hutton.

Slagle, a Sullivan County commissioner, received three votes from Mayor Vince Turner, Vice Mayor Lea Powers and Councilwoman Rae Akard. Councilwoman Margaret Feierabend voted for another candidate for the post, Cade Parks.

Slagle is expected to be sworn in at the council's Oct. 7 meeting and will serve until the next regular city election. Slagle said he plans to resign from the county commission before taking the oath.
