Mirrabooka locals are worried about losing public space, with more than half of the Mirrabooka Regional Open Space playing fields set to be permanently fenced off for the Perth Glory Football Club’s use.

Speaking to PerthNow, City of Stirling mayor Mark Irwin confirmed two soccer pitches covering 17,940sqm of the Mirrabooka Regional Open Space will be fenced off for Glory’s exclusive use, who have already been training at the ground this year.

The fence is set to cost $150,000.

Those living near the open space were recently advised by letter from the city about the planned works.

A petition has been launched in response urging the city to halt the project, stating that fencing off the open space could affect residents’ mental health and limit recreation activities.
