A new phone line has been launched to help dispel disinformation and inform South Australian beachgoers about the toxic algal bloom that is plaguing the state's beaches.

The $1.1 million hotline, jointly funded by the state and federal governments at a cost of $1.1 million, is reachable on 1800 774 779, and will operate seven days a week, from 9am to 5pm.

It is intended to provide callers with general information about the algal bloom, answer questions about industry support, offer the latest health advice, and facilitate the reporting of dead or sick wildlife.
