South Lanarkshire residents once again rushed to snap up garden compost bins after a hugely popular council pilot scheme was doubled in size – with all supplies running out on the first day for a second time.
The local authority this week made a further 330 garden composters available on a first-come, first-served basis to allow residents with gardens to recycle their garden waste including grass cuttings, leaves, twigs and weeds, after a similar number supplied in an August trial were taken up in just two hours.
It received a similar “exceptional response” as every one of the second-phase supplies was allocated within the same working day with enthusiastic householders acting quickly to sign up online to participate.
