INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —

The search for a missing 75-year-old pilot has ended after authorities say he was found dead less than a mile from where his plane took off in Indiana County.

According to authorities, David Edward Wittmer was practicing touch-and-go landings in a field near Church Street in Young Township Wednesday. Advertisement

Wittmer reportedly took off from the field between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and did not return.

Officials say his truck was found near the field, with his cellphone inside a nearby camper he was using.

Wittmer's ultralight aircraft was discovered crashed in a cornfield along Coal Run Road around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, less than a mile from where he took off Wednesday.

When first responders got to the crash site, they found Wittmer deceased.
